I put a list of a few things you must know before you spend a cent on this venture.

1. In order to bring a Russian woman to the US you will have to file a K-1 visa for her. It is also called a fiancee visa and the paperwork has to be filed with USCIS (www.uscis.gov)
2. Not every man qualifies for the K-1. There are income requirements (you will have to provide USCIS with the copy of your 1040 tax return for the last 3 years), among other documents you have to have proof that you had met your girl face to face (photos of you and your girl together, airline tickets, hotel receipts, etc will be needed).

3. There are many misconceptions about Russian women, i.e. “Russian women want to get out of Russia or Ukraine and come to live in America”. Things changed a lot since the 1990s so you will benefit greatly from researching this a bit further and getting to the bottom of it instead of buying the old mail order bride ageny hype.

1. In my opinion the vast majority of Russian bride / Ukrainian bride agencies are scam. Some of them steal photos of women from local Russian social networking sites and use them to create profiles. So the men are just chatting with agency staff letter writers while they think that they are communicating with the women on the photos.

There are several different ways they scam Western men. In some cases they have women who actually work for them and get paid for having web cam chats with men and in an unlikely event that a man will actually get on the plane and come to Ukraine to visit them they are paid to go out on dates with him as well as get a percentage of everything he spends on apartment rentals, taxi rides, restaurants, etc. It’s a big racket in Ukraine and provides many good looking women with the way to make much better money than they could make by working an honest job. These agencies are very good at selling a beautiful fantasy to unsuspecting men.

2. I read that there are a few more or less honest agencies who at least try to dobusiness the honest way. Their’ sites are still being used by scammers who sign up pretending to honestly be looking for a Western man, then once they hook a few guys they ask them to send money, etc. But once a man makes a complait to the agency at least an honest agency will remove the offender. But it’s very hard for them to keep up and even agencies who are considered honest still usually have lots of scammer profiles on their sites.

3. Truth is that the vast majority of Russian women do not look specifically for foreign men. Most Russian women that you see on “Russian Bride” agency sites wound up there because they either responded to ads for work, contests and parties in the local media (newspapers, magazines, TV ads) or they were directly recruited by agency reps. Girls like my wife do not sign up with mail order bride agencies. They are very close to their family and friends, have a career and lead a balanced, wholesome lifestyle. They have nothing to run away from! They are not looking to move to another country! That’s the kind of girl you do want to marry! She married me because of who I am, because she fell in love with me and could invision having a family, children, having her future with me. If you are looking for women who are trying to get out of Ukraine, Moldova or Russia you may just become a stepping stone for a woman with ulterior motives.

Say that now you have spent a few years on your search, made several trips to Ukraine or Russia, was able to separate reality from fanatasy, and now you found a woman that you think may be the one. Maybe she can even speak some English, but she is far from fluent. How important do you think it is to get to know her really well, make sure that you are not just guessing but rather truly understand each other’s personality, sense of humor, values and goals in life? This is the part where so many men try to cut corners and wind up getting married while neither him or her have a real, deep understanding of who the other person is. Eliminating the language and cultural barriers will give you a much better chance at marrying the right woman for you. It is important to mention that though I was born and raised in Russia I have been living in the US for over 30 years and I am a US citizen. I was married to an American woman for 15 years and later in my early 40s I found myself divorced and trying to find a reasonably attractive, family oriented woman for a serious relatonship/marriage. I don’t need to tell you how hard it is to find an in-shape, attractive, marriage minded, sain woman under 35 in America. So after a couple of years of trying here, I decided that I was going to find a wife in Russia and bring her over to the US. women only in Ukraine. I strongly believe that one should look for the right

There are 4 major religious groups: Orthodox Christian, Islam, Jewish, and Buddhism. So you can find women of all different types of look: Nordic blonds, Mediterranian looking brunetts that you could take for Spanish or Italian, middle eastern look (georgians, armenians), asian (far east) and lots of mixed people who have the blood of several ethnic groups.

I think that some of the prettiest women come from mixed ethnic background, they look stunning and exotic.

Some Western men who set out to find a Russian woman for marriage are not being very realistic when they start contacting girls who are much younger and have the looks that are way out of a guy’s league.  I have already talked about age disparity in the previous blog, but picking a “believable” Russian woman match for yourself in regards to appearance is also very important. Generally it doesn’t make sense when a bolding, 70 lbs. overweight, out of shape 50 or 60 year old guy is seeing with a gorgeous, model-like 22 year old girl on his arm. Sure, anything is possible and there will always be exceptions to the rule, and if you have the fame and fortune of some one like Woody Allen you may have a beautiful young girl fall in love with your persona. However most of us have to be a bit more realistic in our expectations and as a rule choosing a more believable woman (whether it is a Russian woman or not) will yield much better results in regards to both finding and maintaining a relationship with a Russian woman.

You must forget the old “All Russian women want to get out of their country and come to America” way of thinking. No one wants to get out of Russia any longer and you are not doing any Russian woman a favor by bringing her to the USA, Canada or another Western country. In fact having to relocate to another country to be with you is usually a negative for a Russian woman. Imagine how tough it is for a Russian woman to come to your country! She has to leave her family and friends, quit her career, leave her entire support system behind and come to a completely unfamiliar place where they speak a different language, the  culture is different and where she doesn’t know any one. She will have to completely rely and depend on her man for everything in the beginning. This wouldn’t be easy for any woman or man.

Think about this in real life terms. When you are looking at a photo of a Russian woman, ask yourself: “Would a local woman who looks like this go out with me and possibly marry me?” If the answer is “No way!” what makes you think that a Russian woman would?

While in the West (N. America, Western Europe) we are experiencing a deficit of good looking, slim, single, feminine (not feminist), marriage minded, family oriented women the situation is a 180 degrees in reverse in the countries of the former Soviet Union (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, etc.). They are experiencing a huge deficit of single, decent, non-drinking, not abusive, marriage minded, family oriented men. There is a large number of Russian women who have absolutely no chance of ever getting married and having a family of their own unless they significantly lower their standards…

Unlike Western women, Russian women are not spoiled by the availability of many single, reasonably attractive, marriage minded men around, so they don’t set their standards as high as the women in the Western countries, and if they do find a good guy that they like they generally tend to hold on to him, unlike Western women who in many cases like to continue looking around, “exploring other options” and basically looking for “A better deal”.

This disparity in the ratio between sexes makes it relatively easy for Western men to find much better quality women in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other FSU countries than they could find locally, where they live. But keeping it realistic and not trying to marry a Russian woman who is way out of your league is strongly advised.

The rule of thumb that I suggest to my clients is to not go more than a couple of steps above of the women they normally date at home. For instance if you date women who are 4 and 5 (on the scale of 1 to 10) you can easily find a wonderful Russian woman who is a 6 or a 7. Looking for a 9 or a 10 wouldn’t be very realistic.  If you are dating 6s and 7s at home you can easily find 8s and 9s in Russia who will be happy to date and marry you later.

Too many Western men who are quite average in looks and everything else think that somehow they have this imaginary “special value” because he can provide a Russian woman the way to citizenship in his country. This way of thinking is flawed and dangerous, because you just might get what you wish for – a rare woman who for some reason is interested in obtaining citizenship in your country and will use you as a stepping stone.

Another important factor in looking for a Russian wife is having realistic goals and expectations.
Keeping the age gap within reason is one area where a lot of men fail. I realise that when you guys go on mail order bride agency sites you see many Young, sexy 20 year old beauties in their bikinis who say in their profile that they are looking for a man up to 50 or 60 years old. Pahleeeze!!! Don’t believe the hype! This is not real. You are being sold a fantasy, it’s that simple. First of all a single, beautiful 20 year old wouldn’t even be interested in marriage in most cases, particularly to a foreigner. She is most likely in school, thinking of her future career and has 10 local, good looking young guys chasing after her. You are just helping her to put herself through school. Most single girls don’t start thinking about marriage until age 25 or older.
The vast majority of women on local Russian dating sites, that do not cater to foreign men, set their age parameters within 5 to 10 year age gap. Surely if a man is very good looking and is in great shape some women might accept a wider age gap – 15 and even 20 years but those would be more of an exception, not the rule. If you set your age gap expectations within 5 to 15 years you’ll have a much better chance of finding a good match, and a relationship that will last.

Live web cam chats became a huge source of revenue for mail order bride agencies. They use video feeds supplied by web cam companies who employ women to chat with foreigners. When you are logged into a mail order bride agency site you will get requests for video chat from cute young girls. Sometimes they say that they liked your profile, found you attractive and wanted to get to know you better. In fact, they don’t even know which web site you are on. All they see on their computer screen is that guest X just logged in so they send you a chat request to make some money. Many times these girls are not even aware that they have a profile on the site you are using or what site you are on, since many different mail order bride agencies subscribe to the same video feed. Surely, getting a request to chat from pretty young females will do wonders for one’s ego and self esteem but it can do a significant damage to your wallet and your chances of getting into a real life relationships with these web cam girls are slim to none.
